Police recount anti-Ahmadiyah violence in Banten
The Jakarta Post
Local police now understand how events unfolded in a clash between villagers and Ahmadiyah followers in Cikeusik, Banten on Sunday.

Pandeglang precinct police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Alex Fauzy Rasyad said Sunday that Ahmadiyah followers had gathered at the home of the Cikeusik leader of Ahmadiyah, Parman, on Saturday.

Annoyed with all the activity, on Sunday villagers demanded the Ahmadiyah followers leave the home, but the Ahmadis said they intended to stay.

Eventually, thousands of Cikeusik subdistrict residents entered the home and clashed with the Ahmadis gathered there, tempointeraktif.com reported.

A local leader said six people were killed in the violence, while Alex said three had died and two cars were destroyed.

Local leader Lukman said villagers only wanted to put an end to the Ahmadiyah meeting and had no intention of attacking the Ahmadis.

Lukman said it was only after the Ahmadis stabbed a local resident did the villagers lose control and attack.
