JUP stages rally to oppose changes in blasphemy law

KARACHI: The Jamiat Ulema-e-Pakistan and Sunni Barelvis staged a Naamoos-e-Risalat (PBUH) rally on Sunday to express their opposition to the plans for amendments to the blasphemy law.

The supporters marched on the MA Jinnah Road from Noorani Chowrangi to Rimpa Plaza where the officials of the JUP, Jamaat-e-Ahle Sunnat and other Sunni groups spoke. The Jamaat-e-Islami also had announced its support for the JUP rally. They expressed their support to the Pakistan Army and vented their anger on the US for enslaving Pakistanis in the cover of economic aid. They vowed they would accept death but they wouldn’t allow anyone to say anything or write anything against the Holy Prophet (PBUH).

The protesters were carrying the portraits of Shah Ahmed Noorani, the JUP’s deceased chief and the placards and banners with slogans against the Qadiani’ism. “Don’t repeal or amend the blasphemy law on the excuse that this law is misused. Other laws have also been misused time frequently,” JUP President Dr Abul Khair Mohammad Zubair said at the rally. Commenting over the Kerry-Lugar Bill, he said the bill was a conspiracy against the country’s armed forces, nuclear programme and the sovereignty of the country. He claimed the attack on the GHQ was a reaction to the Army’s opposition to the Kerry-Lugar bill. irfan ali
